Myanmar Earthquake Update

On March 28th, a significant earthquake rocked central Myanmar, near the country’s second largest city, Mandalay. The quake registered at 7.7 magnitude and brought much devastation. The country was already in turmoil from the tragic civil war which has been ongoing since February 2021.
Our partner there traveled in mid-April to Naypyitaw, the capital of the country which is about 250 km from the epicentre. Two graduates of the Bible School went there to assist with the establishment of a new church plant. Although the church is eager to serve their neighbours, the members have needed assistance themselves. Ten members of the church lost their homes in Naypyitaw from the earthquake.
In mid-May, he also traveled to Mandalay, near the epicentre of the earthquake. He went there with his son. As part of the practical relief provided, our partner has also prioritized sharing the eternal hope that is only found in the Lord Jesus. The gospel meetings were well received. They have also since traveled to Sagaine and Amaraphura.
Through your generous support we have been able to raise just over $18,500 for relief so far. Most of the assistance provided has been basic cooking ingredients like rice, cooking oil and noodles. Nearly 2,000 households have been helped through this support.
Engage Today would like to ask you to please continue praying for the people of Myanmar. The earthquake is no longer in the news but relief and reconstruction efforts will take a long time. Please consider donating to relief efforts which are ongoing.
Here are a few excerpts from messages written by our partner to you all:
On behalf of our people, I personally would like to thank you, with all our hearts, for your fervent prayer and financial support. You have touched many lives and blessed us beyond words. You have demonstrated the compassion of God and love of Christ to us and our people. … Also, we have reached out to the family members with the life-saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our prayer and hope is that the people whom we have reached out will somehow come believe and accept Jesus someday. Please continue to pray for our nation because millions are still hungry and in need of hope Jesus alone can give. … Thank you very much and may the Lord keep you and bless you richly in the days ahead.
